Viking's turnover above one billion
MARITIME INDUSTRY: Viking Life-Saving Equipment's turnover reached DKK 1,073.8 million last year, which is an increase of 11 per cent compared to 2007. On the bottom line, DKK 54.9 million was left post taxes, compared to 51.6 million last year
"Viking's strength compared to its competitors has for a long time been its global presence and the fact that we offer complete solutions in safety equipment, advising and service", says Viking's CEO Kjeld Amann.
"In these times we see that our 'proven track record', commitment to quality and healthy finances all are important for our clients. They know that we will be here tomorrow as well."
Despite the general decline in the market Viking experiences a broadly founded global growth in new departments, new products and new farsighted service contracted. The number of employees only increased vaguely compared to 2007 and by the end of the year approx. 1250 people were distributed in 50 departments across the globe.
"Of course, the market recession creates insecurity. High capital demands and difficult financial circumstances threaten the entire maritime business, and it is correct that we have seen a significant decline in the number of contracts on new constructions. It is however important to remember that the business is leaving a number of super years, which means that a relatively high amount of cancellations are needed to bring the market to a 'normal' level in a historical perspective", says Kjeld Amann.
