Maersk nominated for environment awards
SHIPPING: A.P. Moller-Maersk has been nominated in two different categories in Sustainable Shipping Awards, which is held for the first time this year to celebrate green initiative in the industry. The awards are given in London on the 15th of July.
A.P. Moller-Maersk is among the five nominees for the awards of 'Sustainable Shipping Operator of the Year'. The rivals include CMA-CGM, the world's third largest container shipping company, and Teekay, part owner of swift tanker before Maersk bought their share.
In addition, Maersk is nominated in the category 'Green Shipping Initiative of the Year'.
Among the nominees for the awards 'Green Technology of the Year' is the Danish and Dutch DK Group, with a patent on Air Cavity System, which leads air beneath the hull of the ship, thereby decreasing friction between ship and water so the fuel consumption is reduce by up to 15 per cent.
The award committee includes Niels Bjorn Mortensen from BIMCO and Jean Otto de Kat, leader of the Maersk Group innovation department. The latter will however desist from judging the two categories Maersk is nominated for.
