Lower results at Hirtshals Harbour
PORTS: The turnover at Hirtshals Harbour for 2008 reached DKK 52 million, which is approximately the same as that of 2007. The surplus of DKK 3.4 million is on the other hand a couple of million DKK lower than the year before.
"We had expected an increase in the turnover to app. 60 million, but we have among other things seen that ferry services being shut down. Although we have gotten the two new super speed ferries, the joined earnings of the harbour have decreased because our previous four ferry services have become two", says the harbour's chair of the board of directors Knud Storup to nordjyske.dk.
The harbour invested DKK 100 million in traffic installations and other expansions last year. These investments strongly contribute to the harbour's increased expenses. This taken into consideration, the chairman describes the result of 2008 as acceptable.
The harbour is now hoping to see the results of the large investments. A lot of effort is put into attracting new shipping companies - amongst others a new service to England.
"But it is a long process and we are, for the same reason, being very careful with our expectations for 2009", says Knud Storup to the newspaper.
