Danish shipping in continuous growth
SHIPPING: The large decline in the shipping industry will not make the Danish shipping companies lower their expectations. The crisis means that it may take a longer time to reach the ambitious goals, but they will be reached, states Danmarks Rederiforening.
"Danmarks
Rederiforening expects to see Danish shipping industry come through the international economical crisis strengthened and to keep on expanding
its market share", says Jan Fritz Hansen, CEO of Danmarks Rederiforening.
The ambition that the Danish trading fleet is to be increased by 50 percent within the next five years, remains unchanged.
"It may take five and a half year and not just five years. But we will make it eventually", says Jan Fritz Hansen at the shipowners focus meeting, which was held on Wednesday at Nyborg Harbour.
"Even though the crisis is also creating problems for the Danish shipping companies, the CEO pointed out that the crisis will also have an effect on part of the global new building program, meaning that less of the projects are finished, which will relieve the pressure on the shipping prices.
As a bonus, the crisis will also provide the Danish shipping companies with an opportunity to buy in foreign countries at beneficial prices", the CEO stated.
