Maersk wants to cut costs further
SHIPPING: A. P. Moller - Maersk CEO Nils Smedegaard Andersen is satisfied with the result for the first quarter of 2010, and he thanks his employers for a job well done. But at the same time underlines, that new cost savings is on the way.
"Although the most obvious savings have already been implemented through Project One, we must continue our efforts to reduce cost in all parts of the Group. Our competitors are also taking out significant costs, and the global market outlook for the second half of 2010 and beyond is uncertain. Only if we keep the momentum we have gained in the last 18 months, will we be able to maintain the leadership positions we gained during 2009", Smedegaard writes in the company's magazine Maersk Post.
With address to the oilspil, Smedegaard writes.
"The safety of our people and operations has always been a top priority in our company. The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a reminder to us all of the importance of constant care, even if we never have experienced a significant oil spill ourselves. The whole industry must learn from this, including Maersk Oil".
